First I wanted to say thanks to everyone who expressed concern about Sammy! She is doing wonderfully, despite all the swinging that first day after the surgery at recess. School is finally here and she is too over the moon about that to worry about any bruising around her teeth.
Trofie Pasta with Bacon, Crimini and Cherry Tomatoes
You may have been wondering what is going on with the aquarium project (check out the Spanish Soup post for a picture). We have had some issues getting the heater working right, so we still don’t have any fish (much to Alex’s irritation). But stay tuned! I am hoping to have some tomorrow!
Carnitas
Believe it or not, I had never made carnitas before this. I have no idea why, given that Mexican food and braised meat are 2 of my favorite things ever. I recently purchased Roberto Santibañez’s Tacos, Tortas, and Tamales: Flavors from the Griddles, Pots, and Streetside Kitchens of Mexico, and was feeling really inspired to make…
Bakeless Brownies: Review of Bakeless Sweets
You know what they say about assuming…. I write this post in sincere humility, to demonstrate that even experienced bakers such as myself, who routinely instruct others of you how to bake on this website, are capable of making absolutely ridiculous mistakes. Alas. And sometimes we even do it when it really counts, such as…
#ChocolateParty: Crumb Cake with White Chocolate Chunks and Sour Cherries
I am obviously late with Chocolate Party this month, submitting as a participant and not a host. Here is the deal–the theme for June is chocolate and cherries. Cherries. As a blogger they are becoming my arch enemy because they are so beloved by foodies but I just really dislike them. And you cannot find…
Bacon and Farro Salad
Today–the day of writing this, not posting it– was the last day of school. Such a bittersweet day, full of so many conflicting emotions. The kids of course feel no such conflict. Alex is ebullient with joy while Sammy is devastated. I feel much of both. On the one hand, our schedule is once again…
Double Chocolate Chip and Cappuccino Crunch Cookies
I feel kind of like a cheat, sharing these right after the Snickers Cookies, but I made them both for the same canceled picnic and they were both too good not to share. Having said that, we discovered the picnic was canceled after the Snickers Cookies were baked but before these were, although I had made…
Thai Spring Roll Omelette made using OXO Egg Tools
I LOVE being a blogger with the OXO Blogger Outreach Program. I genuinely love OXO tools, making it both easy and rewarding to get to check out their newest and coolest kitchen gadgets and then share them with you. I am running a tad behind right now, because OXO has moved on from eggs and…
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies made with PB2
As most of you know, we live a little bit in the boonies. Not completely, since getting to Cincinnati only takes about an hour–and the northern suburbs, which are pretty well stocked–only take about 30 minutes. But at the same time, we are on 5 acres at the back of a private lane off of…
