Touring Sicily

August 25, 2015 By Laura 8 Comments

Making ricotta the traditional way in Sicily

I’ve been avoiding this post. Not because of anything bad–we had a fascinating and fun time–but for a variety of reasons we ended up on a tour where we had no idea what we were touring.

Leftover Pot Roast Ramen Bowl

August 10, 2015 By Laura 8 Comments

Leftover Pot Roast Ramen Bowl: Take any leftover pot roast--in this case a fabulous Malaysian Pork Shoulder in Caramelized Soy Sauce--and turn it into a fantastic ramen bowl the next night!

This Leftover Pot Roast Ramen Bowl is a fantastic way to use up leftovers–in this case I used a Malaysian Pork Shoulder in Caramelized Soy Sauce, but most pot roasts would work. This is a blueprint rather than a formal recipe, because what specific ingredients you use and how much will depend on what you…

Southern Italian Style Arugula Salad with a Fruity Twist

August 3, 2015 By Laura 9 Comments

Southern Italian Style Arugula Salad! I learned to love these salads all throughout southern Italy--mixed greens, but always arugula (sometimes only arugula!), corn, tomatoes, some protein. So when I got home I made some with American bacon and then tried 2 different fruits--cantaloupe and peach! Bliss!

Crisp, refreshing and delicious, Southern Italian Style Arugula Salad with melons or peaches is the perfect antidote to summer heat! I have mentioned to many people that southern Italy (Calabria) really inspired me with their salads. This is the first such example. The one crucial ingredient in common to the Southern Italian style salads

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
