I am hoping to have some pictures of food for you soon. I might have to steal my kid’s camera to do it, but nonetheless, I do realize this is a food blog.

Usually anyway.

But right now we are still at the beach–or maybe I should say we are still in the Outer Banks, since it has been storming quite a lot the past 2 days. We did it make it down to the beach for an evening stroll during a lull in the rain, but I need to get a cord for transferring photos from Alex’s camera to my computer. In the meantime, we are still using iPhone pics from when the cousins were here. I love that photo above, as Alex seems to be having such a serious conversation with her cousin. And they are both wearing flotation devices if you are wondering what the various bulges are. We take the ocean pretty seriously here, as fun as it is.

I also wanted to point you to a fantastic fish recipe that I discovered a day or 2 before we left for vacation over at Farmgirl Gourmet. As you might imagine, those days were pretty hectic so no photos were taken. The recipe was super simple and fast, using the broiler. I served the Sweet and Spicy Tilapia with Jasmine rice and blanched broccoli. The only change I made to the recipe was to use a dark soy sauce, and I boiled the marinade before drizzling it over the fish. It was fantastically tasty and devoured by every member of the family. So go check out Heather’s site if you are looking for a fun recipe to tide you over until I get home and get cooking again…

I love all recipes that start off with “sweet and spicy”. So glad to hear you’re having fun!

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
