Ooops, I totally forgot my new little weekly To Try post around here. D’Oh!

I love lemon quick breads and cakes–I can try an endless variety of them. Which is why this Glazed Lemon Bread by Simply Recipes is on my to try list. The honey and cardamom–both subtle–look especially interesting.

Apple season is here so what I really want right now is a slice of this Dutch Apple Quick Bread from Tummy Treasure. I am a sucker for anything with a crumble topping, especially with apples. And I love quick bread.

I love scones, as many of you know, and one scone flavor I have not yet tried is orange. So when I saw that Lady Craddock’s Bakery had chosen Orange Scented Scones from the Sweet Melissa Baking Book for that blogging event (where they bake from that book), I immediately bookmarked it. You should too.

Why had I never heard of Bacon Jam? Seriously, bacon jam? Then suddenly I was seeing tweets, people were making it but not yet happy with their results. When I was going to see a successful bacon jam? At last, Homesick Texan came through! This is a weekend project to complete asap… the possibilities are endless!

OK apparently this week is mostly about the sweet tooth. This Vanilla, Salted Butter Caramel, & Chocolate Mousse from Tartelette is calling to me. I have to start contemplating Big Events (because for me this would be a big event dish–lucky Tartlette husband!) to decide which one this dessert would go best with. It is gorgeous and it looks SO GOOD.

Oh, these all look so tempting and dangerous!

The apple bread is so good- the best part is definitely the topping. I was actually considering dividing the batter in half next time between two pans. It would make smaller loaves- but I would use the same amount of streusel.

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
