A Basque Inspired Red Bean Stew that Got Lost Amongst the Minutiae of Everyday Life

I just got back from a fabulous weekend at EatWriteRetreat–and this recipe did not survive the trip.

I made this 2 weeks ago–and loved it–but between a bout of strep throat (guess that sore throat wasn’t nothing after all) and then traveling to D.C. this past weekend, I am having trouble remembering my adaptations.  Somehow this fact has become emblematic of my spring in general, which has been quite frazzled despite not being anything particularly out of the ordinary.  We’ve had flooding, conferences, bacterial infections, emergency room visits for potential appendicitis (which turned out to be more of a Missing-Daddy-itis), a failed cake… although said failure was still very much enjoyed in the batter stage:

Make no mistake: he is not snuggling with her, he is keeping her from eating any more batter while he eats it!

So anyway, I had this great plan for this post. The headline was going to read: “Daddy Went to Barcelona so Mommy Made some Awesome Spanish Stew!” But of course, without a recipe that headline is a little misleading.

In the meantime, stay tuned for a more in-depth review of EatWriteRetreat, as well as a giveaway for some of the goodies I brought home with me!

Even without any snuggling involved, that photo is pretty adorable! Mischieviousness CAPTURED!

That stew looks crazy comfort food-like so I really hope you find the recipe!

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
