The problem with loving baking is that if you have a sweet tooth, well, it is hard not to partake of your own hard work. It is a hobby with consequences. As a result I am always looking for reasons to bake for other people.
Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies from #CookiesForKidsCancer: Best Bake Sale Cookbook
Last month I wrote about Cookies for Kids’ Cancer and the excellent work that they do. While doing the research for that post, I discovered they had a cookbook, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer: Best Bake Sale Cookbook. It doesn’t take much to convince me to buy a cookie cookbook, and seeing as this one was…
Espresso Hazelnut Lace Cookies
I am so sorry I did not get this post to you in time for Christmas cookies. I made the plain hazelnut version with my mom, sent two thirds home with her (she and my dad love these cookies) and I kept one third, figuring I would photograph them in a day or two.

And just as I got nice and caught up with blogging, we set about moving The Spiced Life to WordPress. And all blogging stopped–as well as tv watching, phone calls, and laundry, as we set about figuring it all out. Actually my husband did most of the figuring, while I have just tried desperately to…
Potato Chip Cookies
Each semester during parent-teacher conference week, our school’s PTG looks for volunteers to bake and cook for the teachers, who work through the evening hours. Given that cooking and baking is my kind of volunteering, I always try to make something, at least one dessert and one meal. After a few rounds of cookies for…
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bars
Cheesecake? Check. Chocolate? Check. Chocolate chip cookies? Check. Delectable graham cracker crust? Check. These babies have it all. I found the start of these bars in Elinor Klivans’ The Essential Chocolate Chip Cookbook: Recipes from the Classic Cookie to Mocha Chip Meringue Cake; this is one of those over the top creations that I was honestly not…
