March 7, 2013 By Laura 20 Comments

Orange Vanilla Bundt Cake with a Hint of Coconut

This cake was by far the biggest Bundt A Month challenge I have faced. Confession: I don’t usually care for tropical desserts. And tropical is March’s theme. Have you ever noticed that the hotter the climate gets, the sweeter the desserts get? Not richer or unhealthier, but just naturally sweeter. Rice puddings, custards… They are…

Bengali Chicken, Butternut Squash and Cauliflower with Coconut Mustard--this is serious gateway food! Everyone loves this meal!

This Bengali Chicken, Butternut Squash and Cauliflower with Coconut and Mustard knocks it out of the park! For being a relatively mild dish, it packs a wallop of flavor! Cuban Mango Cake with Coconut and a review of A World Of Cakes

May 1, 2011 By Laura 32 Comments

Coconut and Dried Cherry Oatmeal Cookies

December 20, 2010 By Laura 12 Comments

Oatmeal raisin cookies have never done much for me. They are my mom’s favorite cookie, so I ate them plenty growing up, but I never lowed the raisins and the overall cookie I found blah. Enter Chewy Gooey Crispy Crunchy Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cookies by Alice Medrich, my new favorite cookbook. I have not made one dud…

Thai Red Curry With Roasted Chicken

July 9, 2009 By Laura 10 Comments

Thai Red Curry with Chicken, Grapes and Pea Eggplants: Homemade frozen red curry paste means amazing meals are just 30 minutes away on any given night!

Really in an ideal world it would be roasted duck, but around here finding duck to roast would be a pain–and more of an undertaking than I felt like. So roasted dark chicken meat makes a pretty good sub. I have previously shared some recipes for and using green curry paste–which is kind of ironic…

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
