Another successful month has come and gone for our fledgling Family Recipes event. I love hearing all these wonderful family stories and reading about all the lovely dishes. I hope our event continues to inspire you to find all of your favorite family recipes and share them with us.

Our first recipe from in laws is Patsy’s Blueberry Crumb Cake, coming to us from Family, Friends & Food [as of February 2019 this site seems to be down unfortunately]. This cake looks seriously good–anything blueberry with a layer of “crumbly sugary goodness” is right up my alley! New Jersey, USA

NerdMom shares her Ancient Gingerbread with us, over at Nerd Family Food. One of the first recipes she ever made, she has many memories of making it with her mom when she was young. Fresno, CA, USA

The problem of course with hosting a blogging event about family recipes–and having a sister in the blogging world–is that sometimes she’ll beat me to the punch for a meal dear to both of our hearts. Josie of 1 Kitchen, 2 Dogs and a Girl does it this time with Strawberry Shortcake and Bacon for Dinner–a family tradition in our house growing up. Ohio, USA

My co-host HoneyB of The Life & Loves of Grumpy’s HoneyBunch shares memories of her Nanny as well as one of her recipes, Brown Sugar Fudge. Previously HoneyB had struggled with fudge so this one was extra special. New York, USA

Dhanggit of Dhanggit’s Kitchen submitted an extremely tasty looking and unique family favorite, Chocolate Raspberry Creme Brulee. It is a reliable standby for all of her family gatherings. Southern France

Divya of Dido Lives Cooks tweaks her mother in law’s Spinach-Cheese Ravioli From Scratch, which makes frequent appearances for vegetarian guests such as herself, by re-creating it “Indian style.” I can hardly wait to try this one! Frankfurt am main, Germany

Mrs. L of Pages, Pucks & Pantry, shares wonderful stories of her mom and grandma, along with her Grandma Rosie’s Garbanzo Stew (which they just called “Garbanzo”). It’s my kind of comfort food! San Jose, CA, USA

Last we have my own entry from The Spiced Life, (my mom’s) Susan’s Sour Cherry Pie. A childhood classic that she still makes regularly, I am glad I finally learned how to make it at her side! I hope this event inspires others of you to grab your family members and do likewise. SW Ohio, USA

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
