What is it about kids that brings out the over the top in us?  Indeed, might I say, garish in us?

I would not normally put 1 cup of peanut butter chips, 1 cup of chocolate chips, 1 bag of baking M&Ms and 1 bag of baking peanut butter cups into a double batch of my Sweet & Salty Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies.  But you know, it just seemed like something the kids would like.
And I was right.  And it turns out they were right as well, because they were really awfully good.

I made these for my kids, and I brought some of the dough, chilled, to then freeze in balls and leave for our hosts at our first stop on our trip.  We have made it to the second stage, my in laws, and I thought I would tide you over with these pictures–and a link to the recipe.  They continue to be my favorite peanut butter cookie.

When we were little, the supermarket we went to had a "cookie club" where kids could get a cookie each time they went. My brother and I ALWAYS got the M&M cookies.

Laura, I must say that these cookies look AMAZING. Call it garish, but I call what you’ve done DELICIOUS! These cookies look thick and chewy and oh-so amazing. Sorry that I’ve been an absent commenter; I just finished up my law school exams and am finally getting around to my google reader.

the more goodies, the better, i say. i’m often tempted to toss in so many additions that the ratio of batter-to-chips is insufficient to hold the cookies together. 🙂

Wow really yummy and I love when baking for kids turns into something that is so good that we end up eating half of them!

Sarah I fixed the link, although I will also send the recipe to you. Sorry about that, hazard of using my husband’s laptop on the road I think.

Hi! I’m Laura and I am a recovering history major who has re-channeled all of my passion for learning about the history of different countries to learning about their food culture. That doesn’t mean every dish on here is strictly authentic, but it does mean that even my adaptations are not undertaken lightly. My goal is to show you–by doing–that these dishes are possible in your kitchen. Including desserts because I have quite the sweet tooth! Read More…
